As I'm not a photographer I had quiet the time trying to capture this beautiful bird. Fortunately it settled in a tree for a short time while I fluffed around!
This little painting is detailed using a micro-brush and took me two days to paint using oil paint in multiple layers.
For those who live overseas, “Kererū” are native birds to New Zealand and are now the only bird species that can swallow large fruit to disperse seeds. This is important for the regeneration of New Zealand’s native forests such as Tawa, Miro, and Karaka trees. They have iridescent green and bronze wings that make a loud whooping noise as they take flight. Occasionally, they gorge so heavily on ripe fruit that they become very full or drunk-like – and this can sometimes cause them to fall out of trees.
