Story
I only managed to get a few photograhs of the Kokako, as this bird was very shy. This little painting is detailed using a micro-brush and took me two days to paint using oil paint in multiple layers.
“Kokako” are named after their complex singing – a haunting melodic sound which has been compared to church organs playing alongside a flute. It is the longest known duetting songbird in the world and is a member of the wattlebirds. It has a distinct blue-grey body, a striking black mask around its eyes, and small blue wattles that arise from the base of the bill and sit under the throat. They glide rather than fly, bounding around trees with their strong legs and small wing flaps.
