Story

Back in 1996, six thousand Powelliphantia endemic snails that are critically endangered, were removed from Stockton Plateau before a coal mining company could harm them.  As Forest & Bird reported in a press release "All they lived on was 5 hectares on the top of Mt Augustus. We wanted that small corner left. Instead, Solid Energy mined the lot,”.  Other areas were considered for relocation, but as they were also possible mining areas, The Dept of Conservation moved 800 into a fridge to simulate the cool conditions they required.  Unfortunately a faulty temperature gauge failed and all but one snail died.  This highlights the importance of putting conservation before $$$.

I've titled this painting "The Sewing Room" as a symbol of fixing things.  While this is a whimsical painting, there is an underlying narrative.   Thank you very much for your support.
